Breast Cancer Awareness

October isn't just about golds, reds and oranges it's also about pink!  In 2013/14 I was treated for Breast Cancer and since then I have been selling a lot of my cards to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care and the MacMillan Unit at our local hospital.  You can read about the cd players I bought from the funds for the unit here.

We have three more to get which my awesome mum is getting from some money she won in a charity raffle!  Best Mum Ever!

When I drop those into the ward I will also be dropping off this plaque made with an MDF shape painted with white Gesso, covered with decopatch paper, stamped with an awesome sentiment from Visible Image and finished off with pink ribbon.  I hope this one will be put in the day room and then I shall make some others in different styles for the inpatient rooms.

My Ode to Autumn

We are very lucky to live only a stone's throw from a Nature Reserve, I walk out Newfoundland, Fergus here every morning.  It's delightful to see the environment changing with the seasons and when I get back from walking Fergus I sometimes pop back to the reserve with my camera and take some photos.  I've been having a little play with some of my Autumnal photos from the reserve and my Craft Artist Programme.
I have used a line from one of my favourite poems Ode To Autumn by John Keats.

I have used 3 of my own photographs from Aspal Lane Nature Reserve and  digital embellishments, frames & materials from A Fragrant Memory (Digi Fiddle), African Safari (Daisytrail), Butterfly Botanical (Daisytrail), Fairy Garden (Daisytrail), Fall Splendour (Daisytrail), Magni-flye (Daisytrail), Matrioshka (Scrapiness Designs), Vintage Typewriter (Daisytrail) digi kits.

Warm Autumn Wishes

Today I'm sharing a card made with a Julia Spiri image called Picking Mushrooms.  Julia is also our sponsor this month over at the Sisters of Craft Blog Challenge, you still have a couple of days to get your entries in, and don't forget you can share your creations in the Facebook group too.

I have used an 8x8 card from Keep on Crafting.    The backing sheets are strips torn from Docrafts Papermania Venetian Skies & Olivine Essence Creative Tones pads.  I have had these pads in my stash for years but I think this is the first time I have used them.  I mounted the image on 3D foam pads.
The image is coloured using the following Graph It markers; Skin; 4120, 4125, 4135, 4150, 4155, Mushrooms; 1270, 1280, 9401, 9403, 5240, 5245, 9407, Flowers & Grass; 1150, 5120, 8240, 8250, Hair; 1210, 1250, 1270, Eyes; 1125, 7130, Shadow; 7105, Lips; 5115, Top; 5125, 5140, Trousers; 6150, 9407.
I have used a punch I picked up at a boot sale down the side and coloured the apertures in with a Sakura Glaze pen.
The sentiment die cut is made using the Rectangle Noor! Design UK die.  The sentiment is from Creative Stamping Autumnal Twist freebie set.  I have added touches of Sakura Glaze pens. and mounted it on 3D foam pads.
The inside uses another sheet from the Venetian Skies pad.

Dragons for Halloween

I appreciate that I have been a bit lax with my blogging of late but I have been busy crafting so I have lots to share.  Today I'm sharing a Halloween card but instead of the usual images I have used dragons.  I'm a big fan of dragons they are right up there with Unicorns for me!
The topper, backing sheet and orange & black card are from Lelli-bot Crafts Fantasy Dragon kit.  I have edged them with black gesso.
The spooky house charm, dragon's egg & crystal embellishment are also from the Fantasy Dragon kit.

I have used Noor! Design UK dies - Billlie's Stones and Rectangle Frame on the front of the card I have cut the lattice corners from the die and tucked them behind the topper.
The Happy Halloween stamp is from Docrafts Daisy & Dandelion Pumpkin & Aubergine stamp set.
I have used another backing sheet and the same die inside as a space to write the greeting.

Faery Ink Inspirational - Gabbie Holiday Belle

It's my turn to share some Faery Ink Inspiration, today I'm using one of the October new releases Gabbie Holiday Belle.  I really love the old-fashioned traditional look to this image which is why I have chosen to colour Gabbie Holiday Belle's outfit in dark colours as in my mind her dress is a luxury velvet.
Gabbie Holiday Belle is coloured using the following Graph It markers; Skin; 4120, 4125, 4135, 4150, 4155, Greenery; 8260, 8270, 5240, 5245, Lampost & Shadow; 9501, 9502, 9505, Bell; 9501, 9505, Skirt; 7175, 7180, 7190, Top; 5240, 5245, 5250, 9201, Eyes; 3245, Light; 2105, 2110, 2120, Hair; 3120, 3130, 3140, 3170.
I have used Vintage Christmas & Polar White Flower Soft on the head dress, lamp post and dress trim and Fluffy Stuff as snow as I think the image really lends itself to these products.
I have mounted Gabbie Holiday Belle on Anna Marie Designs black cardstock and tucked behind the image rolled off-cuts of Studio Light Festive papers.
The sentiment is from Get Stamping magazine The Classic Christmas Collection freebie set.  It is stamped, embossed and mounted on black card.

I really hope you pop along to the Faery Ink shop and pick up this digital image, I think it's a must for any Christmas collection.

Book Review: Lust, Money & Murder Book 1 by Mike Wells

I did two things recently - I joined Twitter and bought an e-reader.  Many of you might know that I am an old-fashioned sort of girl, so would digital books having me clearing my bookshelves and would I take flight with Twitter, read on to find out!

I set myself up on Twitter and started following some of my favourite Strictly dancers, crafters, authors, etc.  I was chuffed when Mike Wells, author of over 20 suspense and thriller novels started following me & messaged with a link to a free download for book one of his Lust, Money & Murder series.  My e-reader had only cost me a £10 charity donation and my first book was going to be free - happy days!

Elaine Brogan is hunting down the man responsible for landing her doting father in jail.  She throws herself into her studies determined to join the Secret Service. This is what kept me hooked, the way Elaine chooses to seek her revenge.

It is an easy and absorbing read, technical details are kept to a minimum and Elaine's personal and work life are well-balanced.  She faces a lot of internal conflict as she struggles with her career choice and the men in her life.  All the elements of a great suspense thriller keep this novel moving at a fast pace and build the drama to the cliff-hanger on the last page!

Mr Wells does an exceptional job of capturing a female perspective.  Elaine is an ordinary young woman facing both common and more unusual challenges but at no point did I feel as if her attitude or her coping mechanisms were unrealistic.  She has courage and guts but also shows her vulnerability.

Photo courtesy of Mike Wells Official Website.
I read Lust, Money & Murder Book 1 in just a few hours and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.  Mike Wells has been compared to prolific writers such as Sidney Sheldon and I'm inclined to agree.  I highly recommend this gripping and edgy read.

Happy Reading!  x

I'm chuffed that Amanda at Faery Ink was asked by Alyce of Kit & Clowder to produce images for her Create and Learn Class.  Not only did it mean that the DT were able to colour the gorgeous images but it also inspired me to sign up for Alyce's Create and Learn classes.  I'm looking forward to seeing my colouring skills develop.
I made an easel card using Gabbie Halloween Witch and coloured the image using the following Graph It markers; Skin; 4120, 4125, 4150, 4155, 4135, Pumpkin; 2110, 2160, 210, 8280, 8290, 9201, Fence; 3140, 3150, Eyes in bushes; 5280, 2160, Cat; 9505, 4145, 9502, Collar; 6175, Spider; 9303, Light in Pumpkin; 2105,1170, 2110, Steps; 9407, 6290, Fence; 3140, 3150, 3245, 3250, Bushes; 8270, 8280, 8290, 8240, Door panel; 1250, Door handle; 9100, 9909, Ghost; 9501, Door; 9100, 9407, 3245, 3250, Sky; 7119, Light; 2105, 2110, 1170, Eyebrows; 9401, Eyes; 3180, Hair; 3120, 3130, 3140, 3160, 3190, 2170, Outfit; 6110, 6120, 6140, 6175, 6180.

Halloween Colouring and Candy Giveaway

Banner artwork by Amanda at Faery Ink

You can follow the Faery Ink party here using the link below and don't forget to trick & treat the other blogs.
Image by Amanda at Faery Ink
Before I start you must remember to follow all the instructions to win my candy, simple but necessary.

I've been busy practicing my colouring with some of the amazing images from Amanda at Faery Ink. So I've put together this Halloween page to showcase just some of the Faery Ink Halloween images. Firstly here is Gabbie Vampire, what a sexy vamp!
If you fancy an Autumnal witchy image how about Bella Broomstick, she is one of my personal favourites.
This next image is a really cutie and doesn't require much colouring if you want to cheat a bit and leave the sheet white, I have just edged the creases with a little grey.  Trick or Treat Grams is a great one for Halloween party invites, especially for the children.
Another great image for the kids or a cutie card is this Vamp Angel, she is all dressed up ready for Trick or Treating and I think she would work perfectly with Gabbie Vamp.
To pick up one of these images click on the name which will take you straight to the Shop, why not browse Faery Ink for more fabulous Halloween images.

A Graphic 45 Summer

Morning visitors!  I don't know about where you are but it would seem that summer is over here in the East of England, UK.  Not that I mind, as you know I'm an Autumn/Winter girl but it did make the challenge of making a summer/holiday themed card a little difficult.  Fortunately the challenge was set by a non-crafty group on Facebook who have a very relaxed attitude to deadlines, it's a group of people, a lot of whom enjoy crafting and the group is somewhere for us to share our thoughts and feelings as well as our craft makes, among a group of supportive like-minded people.
It took me a while to get an idea but my muse was eventually sparked by a charm that caught my eye in my bead box and then I remembered my "By the Sea" Graphic 45 paper pad.  I have cut, torn and die cut strips and elements from the pad.
I have also used the Come Away with Me and By the Sea Graphic 45 stamps.
The die cut pieces are made using Noor! Design dies.

I have used Tim Holtz Black Soot, Fired Brick and Faded Jeans Distress Inks.
The Kraft card is from Anna Marie Designs and the pearls, brad, charms and string are from my stash.
