Book Review: Lust, Money & Murder Book 1 by Mike Wells

I did two things recently - I joined Twitter and bought an e-reader.  Many of you might know that I am an old-fashioned sort of girl, so would digital books having me clearing my bookshelves and would I take flight with Twitter, read on to find out!

I set myself up on Twitter and started following some of my favourite Strictly dancers, crafters, authors, etc.  I was chuffed when Mike Wells, author of over 20 suspense and thriller novels started following me & messaged with a link to a free download for book one of his Lust, Money & Murder series.  My e-reader had only cost me a £10 charity donation and my first book was going to be free - happy days!

Elaine Brogan is hunting down the man responsible for landing her doting father in jail.  She throws herself into her studies determined to join the Secret Service. This is what kept me hooked, the way Elaine chooses to seek her revenge.

It is an easy and absorbing read, technical details are kept to a minimum and Elaine's personal and work life are well-balanced.  She faces a lot of internal conflict as she struggles with her career choice and the men in her life.  All the elements of a great suspense thriller keep this novel moving at a fast pace and build the drama to the cliff-hanger on the last page!

Mr Wells does an exceptional job of capturing a female perspective.  Elaine is an ordinary young woman facing both common and more unusual challenges but at no point did I feel as if her attitude or her coping mechanisms were unrealistic.  She has courage and guts but also shows her vulnerability.

I read Lust, Money & Murder Book 1 in just a few hours and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.  Mike Wells has been compared to prolific writers such as Sidney Sheldon and I'm inclined to agree.  I highly recommend this gripping and edgy read.

Happy Reading!  x
